First Canon with Gps : Canon PowerShot SX230HS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with HS SYSTEM and DIGIC 4 Image Processor (Black)
I use a canon g12 as my tour camera and for special occasions but I wanted a smaller camera to carry with me every day in my pocket or portfolio while not traveling. I find the G12 to be superb, indoors and outdoors, in attractive or dim light. It is very sharp, the optical viewfinder is helpful for performance shots, and the articulating screen make unobtrusive waist level photography easy.
I find the sx 230 weighs about seven ounces compared to the about 14 ounces of the G12. The G12 is very sharp but the sx 230hs is approximately equally sharp indoors and outdoors. The zoom operate on the sx230 is far smoother than the one on the G12. Photos seem perfectly exposed, in sunshine and in rain, and in artificial light. The long zoom is more useful than I plan and are quite sharp at all focal lengths. It is even quite sharp at maximum zoom if the shutter speed is set at 1/125 seconds or faster. The menus of the two cameras are similar so it is easy to switch between them.
I search for from the internet that it is perfectly okay to keep a finger pressed on the popup flash so it doesn't pop up when you don't want it to. From what I read, this doesn't hurt the flash and it removes an annoying fabricate flaw.
I have tested it extensively against the Sony wx9 on still photos and find the sx 230 hs to be considerably sharper and have more consistent allowable exposure.
I find the sx 230 hs entrance to cleft priority and shutter priority and exposure compensation to be major assets
All in all, I like this camera very much and advise it for person finding for a contract digital camera. I am planning to use it as a take in any place with me camera. I have found that cameras that are even smaller, like the sony wx9 and the canon elph 300 hs are too small to be ergonomically confortable.
Hope this helps with your decision.

Sony falsely advertises that this camera is waterproof : Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX10 16.2 MP Waterproof Digital Still Camera with Exmor R CMOS Sensor, 3D Sweep Panorama, and Full HD 1080/60i Video (Silver)
I de facto liked my first waterproof covenant camera --- the Pentax Optio W10.
Took decent pictures and waterproof ... Great for snapping pictures of my kids in and around the water.
Also bought the Optio W30 and W60, hoping that the updated models would be much better than the previous. Unfortunately, the picture potential seems to get worse with each newer model. Bummer.
Got the Canon D10 ... I like the pictures from the D10 better than the Pentax, used D10 as former and the W60 as backup.
D10 is bulky and focusing is rather slow, but the jpeg colors are nicer than the Pentax.
Got the Sony Dcs-Tx10 last week, have not tried under water yet but have the following observations:
Positives:
- Much quicker focusing than D10
- Wide angle starts at 25mm vs 35mm for D10
- Awesome Hd movie mode with zoom keep and stereo sound
- Good punchy pictures with strict colors
- Very compact
- Image stabilization very good
- Sweep panorama is beneficial and fun
- Sliding cover protects lens
Negatives:
- It takes a few seconds from power on until first shot
- Takes 5-7 seconds to start recording a movie if not in movie mode
-- This is very annoying, maybe it can be fixed via future firmware update?
- Not too crazy about the touch screen interface
- Battery doesn't seem to last very long (about same as D10)
- Water proof to 5m versus 10m for D10
- Playing back pictures seems a little sluggish
There is no cut off battery charger, it is expensed inside the camera via a Usb cable, like an iPod/iPhone.
I prefer to have a cut off charger so that I can payment a spare battery while still using the camera, but I guess others might prefer just charging from a Usb port. Just to be clear, it does come with a charger plug (like an iPhone) so you can payment from a wall socket as well. But no standalone charger.
Bought this battery and charger kit from Amazon:
Wasabi Power Battery and Charger Kit for Sony Cyber-shot Np-Bn1, Dsc-T99, Dsc-Tx5, Dsc...
I've not taken it in the water yet ... So unless this camera dies on me after hitting the water or does something de facto unexpected, I would say this is the best waterproof covenant that I have owned and would very recommend it.
